Carpet Python and Horse, Education, not just snake catching is part of Harrisons Snake Catcher Logans visits.
Here’s the story…
I very nearly forgot about this snake at guanabah.. this carpet python had made himself comfy in the trees near the feed shed which was concerning the home owners.
Upon speaking to them about their concerns it was clear their main concern was for their new horse they just had imported. Not long after he arrived home he had a scare and ended up going through a fence one night.. the owners thought it may have seen a snake which causes it to startle.
So we spoke some more and I offered to help desensitize her new fur baby.. we started with letting the horse smell my hands, no recation. Then we moved onto one of our snake bags, the only reaction was disappointment there was no food in it. So we then moved along to the real thing, if this horse did startle at a snake then it could have been a sight thing. But no, he didn’t care at all, he used his lips to touch it and play with it ever so gently (horses lips are like our fingers). After see he had no concern about the snake we soon learnt that there are kangaroos near his paddock, coming from America he would never have seen those so our bet it the hoppyroos are what gave him a fright. The owner soon calmed down and whilst desensitising the horse we also managed to desensitise her too.. she was happy to let the little carpet stay and do his job.
You see our job is not always about removing snakes, our job involves educating others about what they are really like, not what the media say they are like.
If you have a possible snake on your property please allow us to come and assist you, educate and rehome your snake is required.
